For licensees expiring after 12/31/2022, the 45-hour requirements are changing slightly. The new requirements vary by license type. If your license expires in 2023 but you complete your CE in 2022, you are still required to meet the new requirements.
For Second and subsequent renewals, the 8-hour Survey requirement is now a 9-hour Survey Course containing 1 additional hour of Implicit Bias Training.
For first-time renewals, there are additional requirements for 2 hours of Implicit Bias Training AND an interactive component for the Fair Housing course. |
2. |
Yes, we offer the 9-Hour Survey course in packages for second and subsequent renewals and both the Implicit Bias Training and interactive Fair Housing courses in packages for first-time renewals. |
3. |
Yes, the full continuing education requirements can be completed with online courses. |

The California Department of Real Estate limits students to earning a maximum of 8 hours of study time per 24-hour period. Additionally, the DRE limits students to attempting a maximum of 15 credit hours of exams per 24-hour period. As such, the fastest all 45 hours can be completed in this format is 6 days. |
5. |
After completing the continuing education, you may renew your license with the DRE anytime within 90 days of license expiration. Renew online using DRE eLicensing (learn to use eLicensing here) |
6. |
If you fail to renew your license on-time (prior to license-expiration date), you may renew your license during the two year late renewal period immediately following your license-expiration date. However, you cannot perform activities requiring a real estate license until your license has been renewed. Please note, if you are renewing your license late in 2023, you are required to complete the new CE requirements of either the 9-Hour Survey course or Implicit Bias Training and an interactive Fair Housing course (depending on your license type). If the license has been expired for over 2 year, the individual will have to re-qualify for the applicable license by meeting all of the current requirements for licensure, pass the qualifying examination, and reapply and pay for the new license. |
